Q: How long have you been with ESC?
A: 25 years (hard to believe)

Q: What is your role at ESC?
A: Customer Support Specialist

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at ESC?
A: I was a customer of ESC before I came to work here, so I’ve known some of my co-workers for even longer than I have worked here. I have also had the pleasure of working with all three generations of owners.

Q: Can you share a favorite memory or accomplishment from your time here?
A: When I first joined ESC, Allan Bissinger, the second generation of ownership at ESC, and I would meet with customers to kick off a new project. Our plan was for him to introduce me, then hand off the project for me to complete. It took some time for us to agree on what a ‘hand off’ looked like. I suggested that maybe he could make the introduction, then go. 

Sometimes he did, and sometimes he said he would stay and let me do my thing without interrupting. I knew that staying – and staying quiet – would be hard for him, so I would tap him under the table to help remind him it was time for the hand-off. In the beginning, letting go to someone new was hard; sometimes it took more than one reminder. 😉

One day, we had a kickoff meeting with a customer we both knew very well. About 10 minutes into the meeting, Allan told everyone he was leaving, and they were in very capable hands. He also told them I wouldn’t let him stay. That day was a big accomplishment. I knew I had established his trust.

Q: What’s one practical technology tip you’d give to everyday technology users?
Technological change is part of our everyday lives and will continue to be. Remember that much of what you find second nature with technology once frustrated us when it was new. Also, ask for help when needed

. Q: What’s one common technology opportunity you see many businesses missing?
A: Keeping things status quo. Make time to understand the technology you already have. Is it being used to its full potential? Is it still serving your business needs today? Does your team need training? Is it time for an upgrade? What effectiveness would you gain from an upgrade?

Beyond the Office

Q: Tell us a little about yourself and how you spend your time outside of work?
A: I really like to garden. I especially love taking care of plants my family and friends have shared from their own gardens. Along with my plants, I have collected great stories on their origins, including the many plants my Mom started from cuttings or seeds she would snag from just about anywhere.
