Q: How long have you been with ESC?
A: Almost 7 years

Q: What is your role at ESC?
A: Support Engineer

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at ESC?
A: I enjoy the tight-knit crew we have. I would say we are all very good friends.

Q: Can you share a favorite memory or accomplishment from your time here?
A: My first week at ESC, I was sent to a job site and told to go screw in some wall plates in a certain area – seems easy, right? Well, I kept breaking off all of the screw heads because the screws just would not go into the gang boxes. I kept going back and saying, “Hey, I can’t get these screws in, this isn’t working.” The guys kept yelling at me, saying, “It’s just screws, man, this isn’t a problem. How can you not screw some simple screws in?”…

Well, eventually they showed me how easy it was, and it turned out that the electricians had used a different-sized gang box in this area of the job site, and the screws I was given were not the correct size. We all have a good laugh about that story now.

Tech Insights

Q: What’s one practical technology tip you’d give to everyday technology users?
A: When you use Google, go a little deeper. Instead of just using a couple of words. Ask your question and search using the exact same words you would use to ask the question to me or another expert.

Q: What’s one common technology opportunity you see many businesses missing?
A: Spend just a little more money to do it right the first time. Spend just a little more money to do it right the first time. It frustrates me when I see corners cut up front to try and patch an issue that needs to be addressed later on. Those decisions cost the company far more to fix than if they had thought it through a bit more the first time.

Beyond the Office

Q: Tell us a little about yourself and how you spend your time outside of work?
A: I am a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and have been doing it for 15 years now. The discipline and problem-solving mindset translate directly to my work. Both require you to stay calm under pressure and think several moves ahead,
